My first Habitat House now a Home

"Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain." Psalms 127:15

This morning we held the Dedication Ceremony for the first Habitat house I was a part of building. Due to a prior commitment, I arrived late and missed the ceremony but did arrive in time for some food and fellowship.
Wall Raising, Nov. 7, 2009

My tardiness must have been divine providence, because I ran into a fellow parishioner who promptly started making inquiries as to my availability for doing some volunteer construction work on our church. I normally run from and avoid all possible inconveniences like this on my time by making excuses.
Walls up, Roof partially shingled, Jan. 7, 2010
Exhausted me after long, COLD day of roofing

Imagine my surprise when no lies or lame excuses came out of my mouth....just assent. I asked what work needed to be done at our church. Painting the rectory.....PAINTING. I'm not even a few posts removed from complaining about how much I dislike painting. The Lord has a funny sense of humor. I'm starting to see His hand.

Beautiful, completed Habitat home

By His hand, this family is living in their own house tonight.....a well built and safe home. Look at what our hands can do when we put our hands in His hands. House by house. Family by family. Neighborhood by neighborhood. Habitat for Humanity is doing the Lord's work and helping those in need.
