"Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you."

Today's Gospel reading was John 21 (http://www.usccb.org/nab/bible/john/john21.htm)

This is one of Jesus's appearances to his disciples after the Resurrection, where he asks Peter three times if Peter loves him. Jesus allowing Peter to affirm his love for him three times after denying him three times displays the deep compassion and mercy Jesus has for all of us.

Of course the part I find most moving comes immediately before this...when Peter, on realizing that the man on the shore is the Lord, jumps into the sea and swims to the beach even though the boat is only a hundred yards out.

We should all be in such a hurry to reach him.
