Gameday is here!
This is the first big weekend of college football.....the greatest sport there is!
There are some good games on today. I'll be pulling for the Notre Dame Fightin' Irish as they begin the Brian Kelly era by taking on the Purdue Boilermakers.
Tonight, my alma mater Auburn Tigers start their season at home against Arkansas State.
Go Irish and War Eagle!

And that's why I never watch awards shows
Unbelievable......LOST won zero awards.
Zero.
The Emmys just proved how completely unreliable it is as a gauge on television greatness. Sad.

Good musicians...great Christians
My church celebrated the start of a new year of religious education and youth ministry by holding a free concert tonight. I'm glad I attended. Catholic musicians Josh Blakesley, Cooper Ray, and Grae McCullough, who are on their Fall Faith Tour sharing their faith and music across the southeast, were the featured performers. Of the three, I was only familiar with Josh Blakesley because of the song "Come to Jesus" (http://www.spiritandsong.com/compositions/75982). They all did a fantastic job.
We need more of this.....more strong Catholic role models leading Jesus-centered lives, sharing their music, and reaching out to the the teenagers with this message of faith, hope, and love.

Familial Fantasy Football and Emmy Wishful Thinking
I have my Fantasy football draft today with all my cousins. I've been playing fantasy football since approximately 1994.....first with high school friends, then with my younger brother's college buddies, and for the past five years with the cuzzes. This is my year. :)
Tonight, the Emmys come on. LOST received twelve nominations for it's final season (Outstanding Drama, Lead Actor, Supporting Actor, Writing, Directing, etc). I truly believe it is deserving to win every last award it is up for, but I have very little faith in these award shows. They historically seem to favor eccentric or quirky shows that no one watches except the critics. No matter the outcome, no one can take away from the brilliant legacy LOST has created.

Flashback - 1985, "The Move"
25 years ago today my family uprooted from our home, family, and friends in Fredericksburg, Virginia and moved down to the east coast of Central Florida.
This was one of those momentous, fork-in-the-road life events.....a big one.....and not a very popular one with me. I can't help but wonder how life would've played out differently if we hadn't moved.
We left behind our vast multitude of aunts, uncles, and cousins. We sold our shaggy "wonder mutt" of a dog, Princess to spare her the Florida heat. We lost the season of winter. We had to start all over at new schools.
All we got in return was a pool and the hurricane season.....as far as I could tell.
Of course everything happens for a purpose in God's plan. According to the scripture I posted several days ago, God disciplines those he loves as a father disciplines a son. He uses trials and challenges in our life to make us more like His perfect son. He does it because he loves us and wants the best for us. Although "the move" didn't seem or feel like it was for the best, I must trust in Him that it was.
